A beautifully knurled copper handle provides an excellent grip, while the solid brass construction offers a premium feel in hand. A ceramic bearing ensures smooth spinning, and the fairly oblong shape is designed for fast-paced Put & Take games.
Each top is handcrafted and one-of-a-kind.
How to play?
Put & Take, or teetotum tops are used for a form of gambling that dates back to Greek and Roman times. The rules are simple: each player "antes up" and adds to the "pot" in the center of the table. Each player in turn spins the top and follows the instruction displayed (Take All, Take One, Put One, Take Two, Put Two, All Put). Every time the "pot" is empty each player must "ante up" and the game continues.
PLEASE NOTE: These tops take practice and skill to spin properly. While the intention of a teetotum top is NOT to spin for long periods of time (or gambling-based games would take forever), it's possible to get them spinning anywhere from a few seconds to half a minute. See "Operation" and watch the video for tips on how to create better spins.
Operation
Operation
Teetotum Tops made of solid brass and copper require skill and technique to spin. While gambling tops are not designed to spin for a long time (since whatever game you were gambling on would take forever), it is possible to get them spinning up to 30 seconds, if desired.
1) Make sure you have a very flat and smooth surface to spin on.
2) Hold the top upright with just your thumb and second finger.
3) Flick your fingers as if you were snapping them. Try not to move any part of your wrist as this will cause the top to tumble over.
4) The faster you can flick your fingers and the more force you can create, the better chances of the top spinning and spinning for longer.
5) After an hour of practice, you'll be spinning on every twist. Have fun!
